One of the few places that has all you can eat crab legs in the area (Saturdays). The staff is friendly, albeit slow at times. We have also been here for burgers and such and never experienced some of the issues I am reading here, and we have been coming here on and off since they opened. The one time we did get rude service, we noticed when we came in the next few times that individual was no longer there. The food, especially the crab legs, are excellent. Not soggy and over cooked like many places. The wait staff comes by when yu are about halfway through to ask if you want more. If you finish what you have first, that is where the wait times come in. This is one of those places if you just want to drink, watch sports or bring in the whole family for food all will be comfortable. We have and will continue to recommend.

After the first visit, I should have never gone back.. The bartenders are not good to rude. They have a habit of messing up the orders and the owner has no excuse expect, that's not good.. How do you screw up three orders? My wife's hamburger and my sons order came out ten minutes after the small pizza I ordered.. Yep, I guess that is not good!! Then the owner and bartender ignored us for the rest of the time.. We will not be back!!!!

Pretty sure the Chili is Hormel chili. LOL. The food is not impressive. My wife and I have come here a few times in the summer and every visit was just OK. I've never had anything on the menu that made me want to come back again. Service was just ok.

Let me start by saying this place is highly over rated, and it is a place that one would go if you are depressed and want some cheap burnt food. The only thing that makes it an attractive joint is that it has specials all the time. But are you really getting quality food? The answer is no. The fact is, is that what you are getting is heartless food. There is no heart that is put into their cooking and I will most likely never step foot into Rookies again.

Very good place to watch the games. Good beer prices great wings! Also love the mini corndogs.

I used to eat here on a regular basis years back, but had a horrible experience with the owner's brother in law not being able to control his drunk friends at the bar. I ended up going back a few weeks back to watch a UFC event and pretty much the staff was rude and the service was slow. Only good thing is their $1 burgers, other than that I much rather go to BWW to watch the UFC fights.

As a displaced NY sports fan in Chi-town since 1997, Rookie's has become my home to watch the NFL and my Jets. There are plenty of TV's, the food is very good quality, and the prices are more than fair. It isn't too large, but for me, that just encourages conversation with people nearby. The burgers are excellent by themselves but there is so much more. They have the best garlic-parmesan wings (far better than BWW) and I like them with some of their pizza bread. The Cajun prime rib grinder with the pepper jack cheese and onions is also one of my faves. Also, I'm tough on pizza, but the Godfather's (sausage, roast beef, tomatoes, onions, jardiniera) is one of the finest and most unique I've had in all of the suburbs. Here's a scoop: available only in October, their brats are tremendous. The sauerkraut and onions with a beer-boiled sausage on a hoagie roll with a side of fries are an absolute winner and I believe they're only $5.00. One dollar more for a spicy brat with pepper jack cheese. My big food disappointment is I'm not a fan of their chicken fingers. I just don't care for the breading.

OK the bar/restaurant itself may not be too exciting or unique, but they consistently serve up great bar food. It seems like at least twice a year they do $1 burgers and dogs, which is about the best deal you can finds in the suburbs. This is not some mini burger for a buck, but a big juicy full-sized burger. Yes, cheese adds 50¢ and it comes with chips. Change to fires and you are up to $4 and I still say a great deal. For the standard menu fare, the pizza is always good, beer nuggets great as an appetizer and the grinder is a great sandwich. For Bears games, their Algonquin location is a better choice, as St Charles has low ceilings and a little dark, so was not designed for sports watching.

Watch your bill. They were charging everyone 108% sales tax, and I was told the manager would fix it later. Sounds like a scam to me. They charged everyone in my group the same rate. I was the only one lucky enough to catch it.

Rookies to me means $1 burger deals and hard plastic logo cups you can take home (could always use them at home or picnics, right?). It's kind of a drive, even for this Suburban gal, but my B/SIL likes the place and when they invite us out, they always drive so I don't mind. I've only been there for $1 burger nights--check the website for the dates. Their regular burgers are good. I found the garlic Parmesan a bit more tasty. Their homemade potato chips are a good alternative to fries. It's a sports bar so lots of TV's and drink specials. Lots of families, lots of kids after their games.

Great restaurant and bar. Really anyone of any age came come here for after work drinks, lunch/dinner with the family, or even late night occasions. The bar and wait staff is really great, friendly, and helpful. The food is fantastic, and really good price. I recommend going in for their $1 burgers and hot dogs, and on Mondays their 1/2 off pizza. Don't buy anything at menu price though, because it's really expensive!

The only reason why I have this place two stars is because they show the UFC fights with no cover charge and their Mai Tai was pretty good. We sat at the bar my bf and I ordered nachos and wow super super salty. The chips were all mushy the guacamole tasted like it came out of a plastic bag. They gave me sour cream in a cup and it was like a teaspoon size portion. My sister in law ordered a blue cheese burger said it was good. I tried her fries and they were tasteless. Her husband ordered pizza and it looked so greasy. Very disappointing.

So their summer specials on food are great and all but I had to take off a star for our last visit there! Our waitress was not attentive whatsoever.. Our mini tacos and corn dog nuggets were soggy, definitely not as crispy as they should've been.. It literally took like ten minutes for her to even come back to get them and have them remade. On a visit before that we figured we'd try their pizza which looked delicious at the table next to ours. That was the biggest disappointment. It looked so delicious and flavorful but tasted the complete opposite! It was horribly bland. The sauce had no kick to it. My piña colada was tasty but could've had more of a slush to it. Family friendly place but those two experiences made my 5 stars go down one. Maybe next time will be better!

    1) they overcharge you on your bill. PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION. 2) their shots are not full shots, but you will pay full price. They use small shot glasses and tell you it's a normal shot. BEWARE. The bar itself is fun but this place is a rip off.

Friday afternoon bartender sucks, who seems to be popular....? No clue how to visit and ask customers and service the lunch needs. Food is obviously a big part of their business. I spent more time talking with patrons and discussing the terrible service. Asked for menu and a beer. 20 minutes later get a beer. Have to ask for menu twice. Finally after many attempts to order food, gave up and left no tip. Even sat and talked with manager who was clueless to the bad service from bartender.

I will not waste too much going into the details of why this place misses the mark. I think the other reviews on Yelp pretty much say it all. I have been there a few times to eat, always hoping that it will have by some miracle improved. It never does. In general the food is not good. Fish tacos are soggy and there is barely any fish. The Friday fish fry is fishy. The apps are tasteless. The place is indeed dark and dirty. Those dining are forced to go by the bar to use the restrooms and I have been made to feel uncomfortable by the drunken bar flies on all three visits. I think it is the bartenders there that really turn me off from the place. They are a bunch of petty females who noticeably do not like each other and fight over customers. It is totally unprofessional and customers do not care to see that. At least I don't. I do not plan to ever go back. I gave them enough tries.

We came to the restaurant with a free app coupon with the purchase of $20 or more. We ordered the pizza which was on special that night, had some beers, and ordered an appetizer based on our coupon. Bill came and they said we couldn't use the coupon because we ordered the "special" and they told me to read the details of the coupon where is says "not valid with other offers". We took that to mean that we couldn't use two coupons at once. After a long discussion with the "so called" manager in the ugly white pants, we were told that "absolutely nothing can be done" After telling them out story they were rude and walked away. Don't bother bringing coupons to this establishment.

Large menu for kids and adults. Kids friendly place. Service was good. Food was good. Great selection of beers and drink specials.

Great staff great food. Plenty of seating and great prices. Friendly place to go for the entire family

The menu selection of sandwiches is A OK as so was the serving size of the fruit side. I've had the buffalo chicken sandwich and the cajun prime rib and enjoyed both. The latter becoming one of my favorite sandwiches The prices are average perhaps a it better then average considering the size. I've only had my food to go and have found it best to order ahead. The one time I ordered from the bar was a long wait. Beyond if I had ordered ahead and came in the designated time. An average of about 10 minutes so it is basically call it in and go get and find it is ready on arrival. The going out the door I'd say it is one of my better finds. I plan on trying more items off the menu to see if there are more yum yum 4 da tum tum options. If so I'd say it will become a 5 star place.

The name says it all, 'ROOKIES'. If you are looking for the best burger in town, keep looking. If you are searching for a fair price on good food, nope. If you want a great bar atmosphere with a great and friendly service staff, then come on in. I have eaten here on several occasions with my family, and am always leaving wishing the food was more and the bill less. From a burger and fries joint, there are many which are better; Fuddruckers for example. And a sports bar like Champs would crush it in a head-to-head. The food is overpriced for what you get, everything is "extra", and there are better choices in town. Not to mention they are a bit light on the pour. If the tri-cities area had better restaurants to choose from, Rookies would be in trouble.

This place is great. I often stop by after work for a night cap (or 2...or 3) and I'm never disappointed. They always have great specials for instance, during the month of May they have dollar burgers. How do you beat that my carnivorous friends? The menu has just about anything you could want at a sports bar. This is also a great place to watch the game. Staff is super friendly, and fellas, these girls are super cute to boot.

    (5)
  • D H.

This is a great place to watch a game and/or grab a burger. What makes it even better is their $1 burger specials. It's a huge and delicious burger, with your choice of cheeses and sides. While I don't live anywhere near here, when I'm out this way I always try to stop in. (Full discclosure--I've only had their burgers, nothing else.) Lucky for me I have family out this way. I've been here probably a dozen times and never been disappointed, though I have to say the last time I was here the bathrooms were a mess, hence the 4 instead of 5 stars.

  • George F.

Steer clear unless you like to overspend for "ehhh-ehhh" bar food with bad service. I dont care how cute a waitress is if she cant get anything right, it's a problem. They are all like that there.

    (2)
  • John O.

R U Serious? This place is gross. Home of the $1 hamburgers, what a joke. Who doesn't put cheese on there burgers? Ya you get a $1 hamburger but it's another dollar for the cheese. The service sucks and all the girls (servers) have attitudes like there pissed off at the world. I even had their "famous" all you can eat crab legs. If you order this I hope you like rubber cooked in salt water. I couldn't even crack the legs they were so rubbery. They sometimes have bands for there night life and I've heard better at the high school's battle of the bands. The only thing keeping this place open is that it's cheep and you pay for what you get.

  • Keegan L.

A must stop during the $1Burger specials they have every other month.

    (4)
  • Captain K.

We have only eaten in the "dining area". Food is about par for bar grub. They have several TVs along the wall with plenty of sports to watch. Noise level is about what you'd expect in a bar. We've often had to pass up eating here because there was a line out the front door when they have their monthly specials. We enjoy their free popcorn and cheap beers. We hope the management invests in some new menus, the current ones are gross. All in all we would recommend this place. Cheers!

Hadn't been to Rookies in forever! (Last time with Dan and Heidi (review also here). MK, Aidan and I headed up there Friday night (04/04/08). In fact, I haven't been there since the remodeling job and it looks fantastic. Get a bowl of popcorn when you sit down and that's always fun. MK had some rum drink that was listed as a special, I, the new Rookies' Red Ale. We ordered the Rookie Four Play appetizer and what a plate of munchies THAT was. 2 Loaded skins, 4 tenders, 4 wings, 4 mini tacos. Who the heck needed more? We did of course, so MK ordered the cheesy beef with a side of marinara and I ordered up the Gyro plate (was craving them). Food arrived hot and tasty of course and we enjoyed our night. Loads of flat-screens all around the dining area and bar. The had the replay of the Cubs game going along with the Friday night WWE. They also have NTN Trivia. All kinds of people here on a Friday (young and old, large groups and small). Noticed that they are opening a Rookies 2 up in Elgin soon (off Randall Road). I turned MK into a Rookies lover and I'm sure we'll be going back, most likely with D&H!

I'm giving this place four stars for their huge menu, decent prices, and abundance of flat screen TVs everywhere. If this rating was just for the food I'd say it would be about a 3. Is the food really great? Nah... but it's decent. There's so many choices on the menu it's crazy. We always start out with the beer nuggets which are always really good and come out piping hot. I've tried a few of their wraps which are usually good and come with huge portions. My wife tried a few of their "gourmet" pizzas and she thought they were surprisingly good. Service is decent, but like some others have said some of the waitresses obviously don't want to be there and they show it. I can see why they may be not-so-happy during the $1 burger specials, it definitely cuts in on their tips if the customer is a cheap-arse and sticks with the 18% tip rule. The place can get loud, especially on weekend nights and during local televised sporting events. I can't believe some people complain about the $1 burgers. Are you kidding me? I was amazed how tasty and big my burger was. No $1 burger at any of the greasy fast food joints come close. And if you don't like the $1 charge for cheese, put a slice in your pocket before you leave home and deal with it. Also, I've come here sans-family to watch some Bears games, it's a great place to watch them, they always have drink/food specials during the games and like I said before TVs are everywhere.

Went there with friends for the all you can eat crab legs. I hadnt been there before but my friend John loves it. He, his gal and my wife got the crab legs. I opted for the Rib eye steak. The crablegs were pretty good. tasty and sweet. i sampled a few of my wife's after she did all the work of shucking them LOL. My ribeye was cooked to order (rare) and was very tender and tasty. Came with baked or they have other starches to choose from. The Mai Tais are potent. We stayed and watched a game on the assorted multiple TV screens. Our waitress was a little disinterested, but the food arrived timely on hot so that was fine. I would return. Seems like a fun place.

Hard to beat $1 burgers and hot dogs. Actually wasn't bad. Seemed a bit understaffed. If you hungry and looking for cheap eats I recommend.

Hanging out at St Charles with the boyfriend n the brother :) Stopped at Rockies for some food because the boys didn't feel like dealing with the crowds at the fall festival. Let me tell you a couple of things: ~not very clean the table was filthy ~food was not good. I had the chilli and it was just some sort of tomato mush. Our sampler platter was incomplete, it was missing the cheese sticks and my boyfriends burger did not have the ingredients he asked for. ~Slow service we waited a very long time for drink refills and our check This place might be good for drink and to watch sports since there were so many flat screen TVs

Great long-time neighborhood Sports Bar. They've remodeled in the last year or two and the place is looking pretty good. The $1 burgers are AWESOME and most of the food is very good. Service can be a little erratic, but the place can get busy quick... The bathrooms were pitiful today when we visited, but with the Scarecrow Fest crowd lined up out the door, what do you expect? Very kid friendly, pretty good selection of TVs, including HD sets. Recommended.

Rookies is home to the $1 Burger. For all the people that complain it's $1 extra for cheese... Seriously, you suck at life. I think it's $2.99 for a Cheeseburger and fries. The burger isn't anything to write home about. It's basically the same as a "Bubba" burger. You know the frozen patties you can buy at the grocery store? But for 2.99 it is not bad. I also hear that have All you can eat Crab Legs on Saturdays for 24.99. I will update when I find out if that is true. If it is, expect me to eat them out of business. As far as the atmosphere... It's a little dark, and old fashioned. But there are about 50 Flat screens there. which is nice. Service was average. Over all it's a nice place if you want a cheap burger. I'd go back, for sure.

I love the food I have been to all 3 of the Rookies, everyone has been over the top. The food is always great and I love the burgers. $1.00 Bugers coming soon.

Sub par sports bar at the end of St charles and off by its self in unimpressive building. A hundred bars in the Chicagoland area look like this bar. The food was bad and service ot that good. This bar is just another strip mall suburban bar that doesn't stand out. Your better off going towards the river and enjoying the bars over there

  • Heidi A.

Rookies just went through an interior remodel. They feature an extensive menu, including mexican food. I've never had a bad meal here. Go for the $1 burgers. Best deal. Unfortunately they don't offer the $1 burgers all year. Just a few times a year. Also try the pizza--it's underrated. The wait staff is always helpful and fast.

Great place to watch a game. Very family friendly. Few months out of year they have dollar burger specials.

  • James V.

Do they think they can get me hooked on their burgers by selling them for a dollar all month? HECK YEAH! I'm hooked. Great burger. A million TVs. Nice service. Coming back even after the September special is over. Oh, and awesome fresh made chips.

Took out of town guests here for a few beers and some hockey. Not being basketball fans, we were out of place until the Bulls game was over. Food & Service was excellent (once the bulls game was over and the place thinned out a little) and they even put the St. Louis Blues hockey game on for my guests.

Good ol' Rookies. I really only ever go here to drink with friends. However, I do like to go for the $1 burgers. (You have to pay extra for fries and cheese, but it is still a GREAT burger.) Keep an eye on the board outside for when they have 'em. The rest of the food is okay, like I said, come here to drink with friends and watch sports on tv.
